Jordy Smith is the only South African still in the running at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. Jordy eliminated veteran World Tour campaigner Taylor Knox to advance to the fourth round. Fellow South Africans Greg Emslie and David Weare were eliminated by Adriano de Souza and Tom Whittaker respectively. Jordy will face the dynamic Bede Durbridge in round four.

The competition took place at the original contest venue Snapper Rocks, after a few day's competition and nearby Duranbah. Jordy and Dane Reynolds were the stand-outs of the day. Also advancing through to round four is Snapper local Mick Fanning.
