Right-hand Carnage
The World Tour descends upon the once-sleepy town of jeffrey's Bay in the Eastern Cape of South Africa to meet up with those long and perfect winter swells that sweep down the mile-long point. One of the longest-running events, Supetubes has been on the radar ever since Occy smashed his way to victory in the 1984 event, and it has been running ever since in some form or another.
Jordy claims the Billabong Pro as his favourite event at this stage, and he has had some radical performances there over the years. Despite all his victories at J-Bay when he was a junior, Jordy made the semi-finals of the World Tour event in 2006, falling off on a bomb in his semifinal, and made the semi-final in 2008.
In both events Jordy looked like the best surfer in the water. His surfing was inspired and adventurous, and he looked set to win both events. It was experience that saw him beaten. Experienced surfers holding their nerve and surfing all the way down to the last second in their heats, that saw him being defeated. Which is fair game on the World Tour. Experience holds for a lot.
As Jordy gains more experience, so he should see those close heats go his way. As he learns more and surfs more and more World Tour events, so he will soon start playing the experience game on his competitors.
J-Bay 2009 will be Jordy's event.
